Pindaya is famous for their caves. OK, perhaps “famous” is too strong a word. Even by Myanmar standards, it is not quite an “A” list destination. Think of it as the Marble Falls of Myanmar, except replace the Bluebonnet Café with a cave full of Buddhas.
Our third phase of Myanmar was meant to be a trek and a homestay in a mountain village.
Today was a day for healing. While we are past the worst symptoms or our food poisoning, we are not 100%. We had originally planned to spend most of the day seeing Inle Lake and visiting various craftsmen.
When we decided to go to Myanmar, Susie began to research how to travel here. We love being on our own, but also see the advantage of guided tours. During her research, she came across a Canadian named Dustin Main who has visited Myanmar over a dozen times in 5 years and has started a small travel business. He seemed to have an instinct for quirkiness and edginess while also understanding what is too much for the average Western tourist (e.g., sleeper busses).
Wiley Baskin is an easy travel companion. He rarely complains, is agreeable and willing to do whatever the more opinionated family members lobby to do. His great disposition is almost always his best companion.

When we traveled in Tanzania, we took a magical balloon ride over the Serengeti. During this ride, we lowered to within 50 feet of hippos and lions. We would then soar 1000 feet up to see the vast expanse of the plains and the distant mountains.
We have loved our time in Bagan. I am embarrassed to say that I did not know it existed 6 months ago. Admittedly, knowing about Bagan is not needed to navigate our lives in the US, but I have always thought of myself as a closet anthropologist. As a child, I was fascinated with Egypt, Greece and Rome. When I saw that English gardens would place fake ruins, I understood.
When I wrote this a few days ago. the internet was truly terrible in our hosteland I promised to add photos later. I have now done so.
Weather is an odd thing.
