Yesterday, we had Division Night. During Division Night, each age group has a special evening activity organized by their Division Leader.

One of the gifts of this activity is the ability to find themes that have specific appeal to each group. Sometimes it is hard to find something that appeals to 16 year-old girls and 8 year-old boys. Division Night is a solution to this challenge.

Our Little Leaguers (those just finishing K and 1stgrade) created masks and capes to create their own superheroes. Some campers opted to become mermaids or cats, but that sounds pretty super to me.

The 2ndand 3rd grade boys became Avengers,

Their female counterparts had a party with unicorn hats.

 The 4th and 5th grade girls dressed up their counselors for a fashion shoot.

The 4th, 5th and 6thgrade armed and prepared their counselors for a silly battle (think live-action Rock “em Sock ‘Em Robots).

The 6th-8thgrade girls did “Leave It At the Door” where they each wrote down a habit or concern that they want to lose. At the end of the exercise, all the papers were thrown into a fire. The girls also talked about the experience of recreating themselves at camp. I LOVE this exercise, but I did not get a photo of it.

Similarly, the 7th-8thgrade boys had a scavenger hunt that put them all over camp (but made for mediocre photography).

The Senior Campers joined their “adopted cabins” and made their events even more special. I will talk more about our Senior Campers in a future blog. For now, please let me simply suggest that these young women and men are learning powerful and lasting leadership skills while also living tech-free lives.

After Division Night, Chef Travis (our exceptionally wonderful chef who joined us just a year ago) surprised the campers with an evening snack (apple turnovers). Here the campers are converging on the Fillin' Station for treat. [Note: camp is full of silly names. Fillin' Station is the name of our dining hall. It and many of our other camp names came from Hondo Crouch, one of our founders and the source of many good Western songs (including some by Willie Nelson and Jerry Jeff Walker).

So, in short, it was another delightful day at camp. We hope you are creating special moments wherever you are.
