When I was a camper in the 1970’s, camp was my favorite place in the world. Not only did I have fun and make friends, but I believed that I was a better person at camp. At camp, I felt funnier, more likable and more confident. In fact, I even believed I was a better athlete who was able to run faster: I called it my “Camp Speed”.

This weekend, I have the opportunity to attend my 30th reunion at Davidson College. Susie Ma’am and I rarely ever leave the camp during the summer. After all, we only have 10 weeks of camp and we are deeply passionate about what we do. We love seeing the campers have fun while also growing each day.

Counselor Orientation

nicholasWhen we first bought Camp Champions before the summer 1996, the camp had an orientation like the vast majority of camps back then.  In fact, it was more of a “work session to prepare camp for opening” than an orientation.  The counselors would arrive 3 days before camp, get trained in CPR, learn the camp rules and then perform physical tasks like painting and mowing.
