Most of my articles have had a unifying topic. Today, for your amusement, I offer you a hodgepodge of quotes and shorter anecdotes from Tanzania.  I know we have left, but I thought you would like these.

After I wrote the article about Rwandan security, I thought our travails had ended.  Relieved, I took this picture of the sunset from the Kigali, Rwanda airport.  Our toubles were behind us.

I have told you about our marvelous days viewing the gorillas.

In “The Blues Brothers” (one of my favorite movies) the opening scene feature Jake Blues as he leaves Joliet prison. His brother Elwood meets him there and drives him back to his apartment.

We had the most amazing two-day experience with mountain gorillas.  

This blog is a lighter one. If you are looking for depth today, this is not for you.  This is the second blog of the day.  I usually only do one, but I wanted to balance the more serious blog about genocide. 

I once attempted to read one of the great Russian novels, but I became bogged down with the characters' names. I sensed that it was going to be very important to remember the differences between Nicholai and Ivanovich and Kasparov and Baryshnikov and Perestoika, but none of the names really took root in my mind. I found myself flipping back in an attempt to figure out exactly what Vladimir did – was he the amputee or the spurned lover?
