It is Wednesday, so it is time for another silly camp dance and costume extravaganza.
When I was a camper in the 1970’s, camp was my favorite place in the world. Not only did I have fun and make friends, but I believed that I was a better person at camp. At camp, I felt funnier, more likable and more confident. In fact, I even believed I was a better athlete who was able to run faster: I called it my “Camp Speed”.
Getting Recognition in the Press (and the Rhythms of Camp
We received two fun emails this week.
I have had a series of serious blogs, so I thought I would share a quick laugh and a word of encouragement.
This weekend, I have the opportunity to attend my 30th reunion at Davidson College. Susie Ma’am and I rarely ever leave the camp during the summer. After all, we only have 10 weeks of camp and we are deeply passionate about what we do. We love seeing the campers have fun while also growing each day.
When we first bought Camp Champions before the summer 1996, the camp had an orientation like the vast majority of camps back then. In fact, it was more of a “work session to prepare camp for opening” than an orientation. The counselors would arrive 3 days before camp, get trained in CPR, learn the camp rules and then perform physical tasks like painting and mowing.

During Division Night, our 7th and 8th grade girls enjoyed an activity that I thought was both fun and uplifting.
Today’s blog has no real theme. I just want to share some fun tidbits that Susie Ma’am and I have enjoyed during Friendship Games and Man Cave. As a reminder, these are the times that we get to spend an hour with each cabin individually.
Camp dances are strange and amusing events. [Note: I love this picture - the anonymous morph costume with the nametag!]
When you are 19-21, it is very easy to be cool in the eyes of the typical camper. You are playful, full of energy and even silly. Campers are drawn to you and your enthusiasm.
